A Message from the Mayor
Fall 2025
Greetings from the Village Office and me, Mayor Jim Mallott.
After a successful 2025 season, I wanted to take a moment to give you a recap of where we are and what’s ahead for our community, especially our infrastructure work.
This summer saw an unprecedented number of great social activities brought to us by the Ocean Beach Community Fund, Recreation Program, Ocean Beach Youth Group, Ocean Beach Association, Chamber of Commerce, Ocean Beach Fire Department, and VOBEC. What a wonderful, collaborative year!
Thanks to all who created, helped, and supported these wonderful events. It’s inspiring and energizing to watch these organizations and the Village government work together for the good of our community.
We’ve also now seen the fantastic results of the downtown flood-mitigation project, which prevents most storms from flooding downtown at all, and pumps the water out immediately after large storms with flooding tide levels.
At least three more significant infrastructure projects are coming soon.
The ocean jetties are getting removed after the imminent installation of a new water well. To protect our residents, I insisted that one would not start without the other, as those jetties protect an important water supply. These projects are scheduled to start in the next 6 months, and are slated to cost our taxpayers nothing.
Under my leadership, we recently upgraded the sewer plant. To ensure long-term viability of our sewer system, plans are now in the works to replace the sewer pipes that run behind your homes, which are over 100 years old.
Before a shovel can hit the ground, we must first secure commitments from various agencies for reimbursement of what will be internal financing once those are in place. I’ve done this before, with the help of our Board, and I will do it again.
Since any such plan would be a long-term effort, I want it to have the greatest chance of success for future Boards. Since we only have a short window to work each season, the project needs to be smartly staged as we did with the recent flood-mitigation project. This starts with my ongoing efforts to secure federal and state reimbursement funds, and then proper financing.
We also have more flood-mitigation areas to tackle, including Surfview, Wilmot, and Midway. These important issues are being addressed.
I want to be your leader in these efforts, and I am running for re-election next June.
Having a year-round, daily presence here is critical for these projects. I will be here to get this done. I don’t take winters “off”.
Under my leadership, our team has demonstrated the ability to successfully complete over $50 million in projects to date, including Windswept for OBYG, the ferry terminal and beautiful Boathouse, the police station, water well #4, the sewer plant, the Community House and courthouse, the north dock, the village office, new water mains, seven large new bulkheads, new tennis and pickleball courts, the flood-drainage system, and upgrades to the village green.
These will continue to have impressive upside for our community, your lifestyle at the beach, and your property values.
We have come a long way after Superstorm Sandy and the COVID pandemic. With the completion of the flood-mitigation project, we can see a bright future.
I am proud of the work we have done on your behalf, and humbly ask for your support for re-election this June.
I am also supporting the re-election of two terrific Trustees, Dawn Hargraves (now Deputy Mayor) and Marco Arment, and I hope you will join me!
Together, we will again get these projects done and ensure we move forward.

Cheers and thanks,
Jim Mallott
